Mrs. Geetha Shankar has been connected with KYM from 1986, as a student of Shri T.K.V.Desikachar and considers it as a great fortune to have been present at the 100th birthday celebrations of Shri T. Krishnamacharya.

With a strong background in English literature, Mrs. Geetha Shankar took Yoga as fulltime service, 21 years ago when she joined KYM as a student and joined the KYM Yoga Teacher Training- Post Graduate Diploma batch and started teaching Yoga Therapy sessions from 1998, with T. K. V. Desikachar’s guidance.

Certified as a Yoga Teacher Trainer by the KYM , she has been handling theory sessions in International Yoga Programmes and Yoga Teacher Training Programmes, from the year 2001, handling many subjects.
Has been heading the KYM Institute of Yoga Studies, as Head of the Department and as its Director .

Her duties include conceiving, planning, making arrangements and conducting all National and International Programmes of the Department of Yoga Studies.

She has been a Senior Yoga Consultant and a Yoga teacher of Yoga Therapy at the KYM

She has delivered guest lectures / presented papers on different topics at the University of Madras and other educational Institutions.

She has been responsible for planning the Syllabus and successfully executing many short-term/long-term Yoga education programmes for Indian and International students.

Was appointed as a Nodal Officer for Swami Vivekananda District Yoga Wellness Centre and entrusted the responsibility of guiding District Yoga Wellness Centers in Tamil Nadu, Pondicherry and Andaman & Nicobar.

Was invited by the Indian Embassy in China in June 2016 , to present Yoga workshops during the India-China International Yoga Festival, as part of International Yoga Day Celebrations , at Chengdu , China .

Has been handling classes of Yoga Teacher Training Programme abroad, for the past 3 years.
